"The radio was very important to the way people lived in the 1920's-30's as it completely revolutionized their culture."("1920's Music." 1920's Music. N.p., n.d. Web. 05 Jan. 2013). During the roaring 20's the radio had just been invented and most people used this for entertainment. While just coming out of the depression many people saw the radio as a cheaper way of entertainment, instead of buying tickets to go to a concert or play. For the people of this time this invention was a huge part of life. They could now get news around the world instantly, also the catchy, and upbeat Jazz music that took over the radio kept spirits and hopes up high during the hardships of the depression. It brought a whole new way for people to communicate and interact. "Radio dominated the20's, with roughly three million Americans owning radios by 1923"(Okrent, Daniel. "Prohibition: Speakeasies, Loopholes And Politics." NPR. NPR, 10 June 2011. Web. 08 Jan. 2013).
Other forms of advertising in the 20's included tabloids, newspapers, and television. Just like the radio most of the advertising on were for entertainment purposes. " The press was often preoccupied with entertainment, rather than concentrating on reporting significant stories or interpreting news events."("ThinkQuest : 404." ThinkQuest. Oracle Foundation, n.d. Web. 08 Jan. 2013). Also like the radio, Broadway was a big part of the spreading of music. People who could afford would go to Broadway to watch musicals, with the new kind of music that was spreading in America.
